This poster and it’s two applications were created for the SLC Musical Theatre to promote their upcoming Spring Awakening performance. The client wanted the poster to convey feelings like edginess, romance, young love, and they also wanted both the bright and dark sides of the performance to be conveyed as well. To achieve this I used a custom illustration as the background. The blue (boy) and pink (girl) dolls reaching towards each other and the rose in the middle are meant to convey the themes of romance and young love. The sharp purple flowers are meant to help convey the edgy themes of the performance and they get darker closer to the bottom of the poster to help show the darker sides of the performance. Finally, I used a sunset background that is bright at the top and dark at the bottom to really drive home the bright and also darker themes of the performance. 

Aside from the illustration I had to include body text throughout the poster as well, along with a title and space for sponsor logos. The title had to be the largest text element and different portions of the body text had to be sized differently in relation the title. For the title typeface I used Warbler for Spring because it gave off an elegant and fancy look, and I used PF Fuel for Awakening because it was more edgy and bold. The feelings that both typefaces convey also match well with the performance’s themes. For the body text I used Avenir because it is very readable at small sizes and it’s a very clean and simple typeface overall. To successfully apply all the type across the poster I decided to have the title at the top of the poster and I had the other text placed from largest to smallest going down the poster center aligned. Finally I added space for any sponsor logos at the bottom of the poster. For the two applications I created an Instagram ad and a postcard and I tried to apply the same text treatment and themes from the poster onto both applications so that they would all look like part of a set.
